ISO has role in rescue of trapped Chilean miners

Most of us were transfixed by the ordeal and rescue of the miners in Chile. But did you know that the ISO standard played a part in their rescue?

J.D. Polk, Chief of Space Medicine at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, referred to the use of the ISO Standard 18738-2003 Lift (elevators) – Measurement of lift ride quality to calculate the optimal rate of acceleration of the capsule bringing the miners to the surface.
